Why Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai issued a ‘code red’ alert for sudden AI Popularity?

The sudden surge of popularity of AI among users caught Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, off guard causing a ‘code red’ situation in the company. But Sundar Pichai remains confident about the role of the company in generative AI.

The arrival of ChatGPT in November 2022, amazed everyone and the popularity of generative AI is growing stronger and stronger every day. The public interest in Generative AI has been huge and attracted the attention of many giants like Google, who were racing to stay ahead in technology.

Microsoft moved ahead of Google by teaming up with OpenAI and adding ChatGPT to Windows and other apps. Google was caught off guard, as Sundar Pichai himself admitted. This is one of the main reasons for the setback of Google Company and alerted a code red situation.

In a recent speech at Stanford University, Sundar Pichai revealed that he understood the need for AI in the future many years back, but never anticipated its rapid adaption in technology by society. He sensed the different trajectory and was amazed by the sudden surge in popularity.

This is never imagined by anyone that ChatGPT took everyone by storm in the form of popularity and it is adapted very fast by the people.

This sudden rise of AI tools in technology forced Google to take some immediate actions and prompted the return of the company’s co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, to help gear up the process of AI efforts.

There is a ‘code red’ situation in the company internally for employees of Google – by the way, which he denied. Since the launch of ChatGPT, Google has focused mainly on Artificial Intelligence. He has launched some of the generative AI chatbots since then that are used across organizations worldwide.

Google also intended to launch more than 20 new products related to search engines, and chatbots that use generative AI features. The parent company of Google, Alphabet also participated in several discussions related to Google’s AI strategy to focus on the right efforts.

There are mainly three setbacks that the company faced in the AI journey, one was Microsoft ahead in teaming up with ChatGPT, Google’s chatbot Bard mistake during the demo, which drew a lot of criticism from experts in the industry, and the third one its Gemini AI model that has failed to generate accurate images historically, and raised lots of brows around the world and generate concerns about the future model’s reliability.

Later, Sundar Pichai admitted the mistake and regretted that some of the responses made by their AI model Gemini had offended users and displayed wrong images.

These situations can be understandable from the launch of ChatGPT and in just 5 days it surpassed over 1 million users. The ChatGPT prompt can provide answers to your query without clicking on different links by Google that directly affect the revenue of Google. The main source of Google’s Parent Company Alphabet revenue is clicking on Google’s link.

Despite facing a lot of challenges, Pichai remains confident about Google’s strategy for the future of AI. He believes that Google is well-prepared for upcoming developments in the field, as AI is still in its early stages.

In Conclusion

Despite obstacles such as the Bard chatbot mishap and concern over the reliability of the Gemini AI model, Pichai reaffirms Google’s commitment to AI innovation. Looking ahead, Google aims to unveil new AI features at its upcoming developer conference in May, signaling its ongoing dedication to shaping the future of AI technology.
